Finishes
We offer a wide range of traditional finishes, handcrafted in our London workshop. We mix gesso daily, which is applied in layers to each tulip wood frame and finely sanded between coats to create a smooth base, ready for finishing.
DISTRESSED ANTIQUE GOLD
Dutch Gold metal leaf on a gesso and red bole base, distressed to provide a more aged patina, with leaf lines occasionally visible, adding to the traditionally handcrafted appearance of the finish.
ANTIQUE BRONZE
A softer, golden-bronze tone, our Antique Bronze finish offers a stippled matt effect over a gesso and black bole base.
ANTIQUE SILVER
Silver metal leaf gilding on a gesso and black bole base. A warm, soft silver finish that is waxed to give a subtle antique look.
GESSO
Unadorned, plain gesso applied in layers and gently rubbed back, creating a clean, off-white, chalky matt finish.
FRENCH GREY GESSO
Pigment tinted gesso applied in layers, in a classic chalky-grey shade that will complement any interior.
BONE
A rich, creamy, off-white finish with a subtle sheen created with layers of gesso, polished and waxed, to produce the look of natural, aged bone.
EBONY
A traditional ebonised black finish, slightly rubbed back to allow the warmth of the red bole to subtly glow beneath the rich, black finish.
TORTOISESHELL
Our tortoiseshell paint effect is handcrafted using several layers of colour and texture. Like animal print, tortoiseshell feels like a neutral, offering a depth of pattern that can bring a unique charm to a mirror. As a hand applied finish, this will have subtle variations, making each frame truly unique.
Additional Notes
Traditional gesso frames are a delicate material and cannot be cleaned with water or liquid.
